From Brain to Merch

Let’s talk about how an idea in my brain turns into the tee you're rocking to see your favorite band, head to a branding, hit the rodeo… or honestly, just to wear while chillin’ on the couch.

Spoiler alert: it’s not just magic (though sometimes, it kinda feels like it).

I used to do it the old-school way—pencil and paper. I’d sketch it out, snap a photo, scan it, and then edit like a madwoman. It was a whole thing. So many steps, so many hours.

But times have changed, and this artist upgraded her setup. Now? It all starts on my iPad… one of three iPads, to be exact (don’t judge—I’ve got a system). I love the feel of sketching digitally—smooth like butter and way easier on my creative brain. I usually have a few designs swirling around in my head at once (but that’s a story for another time), and I just follow whatever idea is calling me that day.

I use two drawing programs—both totally free, because hey, I’m still a thrifty artist at heart. Once the design is done on the iPad, I move it over to the Mac Daddy. That’s where I do final edits, polish up the colors, sharpen the lines, and get everything ready to slay.

Then it’s time to order transfers. I send off the finished files, and a few days later… happy mail! When those transfers arrive, it’s go-time. I head to the press and bring each shirt to life—one by one, by hand. It’s all about the little details, and trust me, that’s where SRM shines.

Now that SRM has grown, I’ve brought on a few of my honeys to help with the pressing. They’re lifesavers this time of year because things get BUZZZY. With their help, I can get more product out the door and onto shelves faster—without losing that handmade quality y’all love.

Work smarter, not harder. I always say, “You don’t HAVE to do it all on your own…” and honestly? You physically can’t do it all on your own.

So there you have it—how a doodle in my head turns into SRM gear.
