A Day in the Life of Hayls

Have you ever just known you’re right where you’re supposed to be? Or looked back at a younger version of yourself and thought, “Girl… you had no clue how good life was about to get”? Or, realized how absolutely, crazy busy life gets in your 30s? HAHA, same.

When I thought I’d be an art teacher, I really did love the idea. Over time, I realized it wasn’t filling my bucket. I knew I was meant for more and that I could do more with my art degree. Fast forward four years, and here I am, opening the doors to my own shop and running my own business. And let me tell you, there isn’t a single day I feel burnt out or question if I’m doing what I’m meant to do. Even in the chaos, I love this life. I love the hustle. I love that it's mine and who I share it with.

I thought I’d give you a little peek into what a “Day in the Life of Hayls” looks like.

Mornings Start with Me

Before I can pour into my business or my family, I have to fill my own cup (no, I don’t mean coffee… yet). I kick things off with some self-care and my Beam Creatine, GI Integrity, and Bream Blow concoction. Then jump into a Peloton class with my homeboy Adrian, where I die a little inside and wonder why I do this to myself. But truth is, if I’m not feeling my best, it shows up in every area of my life—from motherhood to my work.

After I scrape myself off the bike, I get into my official mom fit: SRM tee (duh), some turquoise, and my trusty Nikes. Comfort is key, baby. Then it’s breaky time for the fam, and off to the storefront.

Workin’ It: SRM Style

First thing at the shop: I blast my morning playlist, bust out a little dance party, and get everything ready for the day. Depending on what day it is, I might be prepping for a farmers market or a pop-up, which means wrestling a 200-pound tent out of my SUV like a mad women.

Then I’m filling orders with the cutest little SRM packaging (details matter, okay?), walking them to the post office, and squeezing in time to pay bills and pour a cup of coffee that I’ll 100% forget about. Somewhere in there, I feed my kids (they’re bottomless pits) and usually end up at a doctor’s appointment or Costco. Oh, and if I’m in Missoula? You know I’m making a Target run. That’s the real self-care, am I right?

Shirts, Designs & the Fam

Once the errands are done, I’m back at the shop to press shirts, finish designs, check on my honeys, and wrap up any last-minute orders. Then it’s back home to pretend I won’t do any more SRM work from my laptop… but I totally do. I try to limit it to an hour-ish. Boundaries. Boundaries. I KNOW! But seriously—how hard is it not to bring work home when you are the business? It’s something I’m still working on. Finding that fine line between work and rest isn’t easy when your business feels like your baby. However, I’ll say this: moving SRM out of the house has made such a difference. Having a space to physically leave the hustle behind at the end of the day? Game-changer. I’m learning to clock out, and just being M.O.M. when I pull in the driveway.

If I’m lucky, I squeeze in a jog (gotta get those steps) before dinner, dishes, and maybe—maybe—an episode of New Girl or a few pages of a book before I crash and do it all over again.

Life is busy. Life is chaotic. But man, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. When you love what you do, it hardly feels like work. And getting to do it with the best shop girls around? That’s the cherry on top. I get to trust my team to run the shop while I pick up my kids, see my family, or even just breathe a little. That’s the dream.

This business owner life might be wild, but it’s so good.
