SRM Smithy is still in Phase One: Clean Up... BUT it has come a loooong way. We are getting so close to having everything sorted and figured out for a yard sale. The first thing we are going to get functional is the art studio in the old wood shop. We need to get moving in there, get the roof insulated, paint, and do a deep clean. We will probably have to take the wood stove out? IDK… some things are better for ol’ Timbuckto to figure out 😉 The art studio area of the Smithy already has power and heat, so we can cross those things off the list.
I found a 1927 Sanborn Fire Map of Hall and it shows there being two rooms on the side of the Smithy where the wood shop is now. At some point they must have taken those rooms down, poured a concrete floor, and turned it into one large room with a garage door. The cool thing about this space is there’s a spot where the original doors once went from the Smithy into the wood shop, and right now it’s boarded up and covered with plastic. We’ll be able to take that down and see what’s behind it. AND there’s another spot where I think there used to be a big window, and I’m excited to move the plywood and see what’s underneath. Adding more daylight with windows and a garage door with window panels will definitely make the art studio feel less cave-like. lol
The surprising thing about cleaning this area out is realizing that having a temporary boutique in the art studio might actually be doable. THANK GOODNESS! We thought we might have to box everything up and go strictly online, but we might be able to keep a small selection out until the big remodel is finished in the Smithy portion of the building.
I can't wait to tell you all about Phase Two! 🤗
