Books I've Been Lovin'

Books I've Been Lovin'

It’s been way too long since I’ve shared any book recs with you all. Life has been a whole thing—between opening a store, teaching art classes, designing cool stuff, chasing kiddos, ranch-wifing, and just doing all the things... let’s just say my reading time has taken a little hit. (Honestly, I don’t sit down with a book like I used to unless I get the kids to bed early.)

BUT! I still managed to sneak in a few page-turners that I think you’ll love. Scroll on down for some of my recent faves!

And P.S. Keep those eyeballs peeled 👀—I’ve got a SRM GIVEAWAY coming up and guess what? One of my favorite books is going in the basket. You need this one in your life! You can enter the giveaway by commenting on today's Insta reel by April 17th, 2025.

HERE YOU GO! The reviews you have all been waiting to read.

XOXO, Cody: An Opinionated Homosexual’s Guide to Self-Love, Relationships & Tactful Pettiness
by Cody Rigsby
Rating: 6/10

This wasn’t as funny as I thought it would be. He reads the audiobook himself, and it feels slow at times—almost like he’s struggling to make the sentences sound like his own thoughts. There are definitely some good moments, but overall, it didn’t hit the mark for me.

Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis
by J.D. Vance
Rating: 9/10

This is a really great—and seemingly honest—portrayal of someone who had a tough start in life. I think more people should read books about people and stop reading social media crap and random opinions. Just saying. He clearly comes across as a normal guy who has worked hard and has a true sense of what it means to be poor. He’s done a lot despite the circumstances he was born into.

Sisters First
by Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Bush
Rating: 10/10

This book was so good! They’re both great storytellers, and I loved learning about their family history from their perspective. It was also surprisingly relevant with everything going on in the news today. People should read books like this to become more understanding—and less judgy—based on what they’ve seen in the news or on mainstream media.

An American Story: Everyone’s Invited
by Wilmer Valderrama
Rating: 8/10

Okay, this book was super good! I have very different political views than him, but hearing his story and all the advocacy work he does helped me understand his perspective better. I think he’s a great American and a true patriot. I’ve always loved That 70s Show and his character on NCIS. He’s also been in a lot of children's shows and movies that my kids love. His work with the USO and the way he treats veterans is very commendable.
